One of the most amazing attributes of The Barn is our professional staff. The staff consists of a team of warm and enthusiastic teachers who have extensive experience working with children. Each teacher is formally educated and certified by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care and has certification in Pediatric First Aid and CPR. The teachers have considerable knowledge of child development, strong interpersonal skills and regularly participate in continuing education opportunities. The Barn staff is accessible and understands the importance of partnership between parents and school.
The Director serves as the primary steward of the educational mission and philosophy of The Barn. Our director, Susan Boyle, is an experienced preschool educator that has been with The Barn for over 25 years. She is on site daily to oversee activities, talk with parents, teach the preschool program and assist with extended day activities.
The Barn community celebrates the longstanding relationships with our teachers and greatly values their expertise and guidance.
Barn Yarn Newsletter
The staff writes a weekly newsletter describing the children’s activities of the week along with pertinent information for parents. The newsletter is distributed via email and includes upcoming calendar events, photos, curriculum information, parent helping schedules, and community news.
The teachers present the children with a journal documenting their school-year journey at our year-end celebration. These journals feature photos of the child at The Barn, artwork created by the child, and favorite songs and memories from the school year.
The teachers create developmental records and progress reports for each child. The staff conducts two parent conferences each year – one in the Fall and one in the Spring. Parents can request a supplemental conference at any time.
